22 August, 2011(Sydney): NetComm Limited (ASX: NTC) has selected 4G chipmakerSequans Communications S.A. (NYSE: SQNS) to supply the TDD-LTE semiconductor technology required for wireless access devices designed to support national LTE operator trials and deployments.
The exclusive licensing agreement comes as existing TD-SCDMA and WiMAX networks progress to TD-LTE for increased peak data rates and throughput; lower latency; extended coverage and improved cell edge data rates.
"This licensing agreement supports our long-term TDD-LTE product strategy. Sequans has conducted comprehensive LTE interoperability testing with leading LTE equipment suppliers to ensure our LTE devices maximise the capabilities of commercial TD-LTE networks for outstanding performance results," said David Stewart, NetComm Managing Director.
“We are very pleased to collaborate with NetComm on delivering high performance 4G wireless devices to businesses and consumers,” said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. “Our LTE chipsets are designed to provide super high-speed mobile broadband access with high efficiency.”
This licensing agreement marks a significant milestone in NetComm’s research and development strategy to further build its intellectual property; moving from utilising 3rd party wireless solutions to designing and implementing solutions directly into the product. The NetComm LTE TDD devices are conceived and implemented in the Sydney-based NetComm design centre, integrating Sequans SQN3000 series 3GPP Rel8 compliant technology.
