NetComm, a leading Australian provider of communications products and solutions, has announced the N3G001W 3G Wireless Router a multiple user, high-speed 3G connection to the Internet. This is the first product of a suite of NetComm 3G products for the Australian market.

The N3G001 allows the sharing of one PCMCIA 3G card so multiple users can access the Internet from their notebooks or desktops simultaneously. This saves them having to buy multiple PCMCIA cards and allows high-speed and high-quality connection to the Internet for all users. The router uses a regular Optus, Vodafone, Hutchinson, 3 or Telstra NextG PCMCIA card and relays the 3G into an 802.11g (54mbps) wireless connection. Unlike competitor products, the N3G001W is the only product that is combatable with Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Hutchinson and 3 networks.

Its particularly appealing to those people who are on the fringe areas of the ADSL network, said David Stewart, Managing Director of NetComm. These people will now be able to receive a reasonable if not higher-quality data network where they havent previously been able to get ADSL. It will also appeal to renters who have not previously wanted to pay the costs and make the commitment to ADSL. Of course it will also appeal to users in the huge bush market who are still waiting for any form of broadband.

Traditionally, a PCMCIA card has only been able to provide one 3G internet connection. The N3G001W allows users to share their 3G service with any wireless enabled desktop or laptop computers.

The N3G001W also provides multiple security protection measures. The router provides wireless LAN 64/128-bit WEP encryption security, and WPA/WPA2 and WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK authentication and TKIP/AES encryption security. It also supports VPN pass-through for sensitive data secure transmission.

Key features of the N3G001W include:

  • Only product on the market that is combatable with Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Hutchinson and 3 networks
  • Transportable and flexible 802.11g (54mbps) wireless connection
