About Rural Broadband

Rural broadband involves the deployment of wireless (3G/4G) networks in rural areas with the objective of closing the broadband gap. Because of the geographical limitations of fixed line (ADSL/Cable/Fibre) infrastructure, 3G and 4G (LTE) fixed wireless technologies are fast being deployed to narrow the digital divide between urban and rural homes, business and industry worldwide.

What is fixed wireless technology?

Fixed wireless is the global technology of choice for getting fast and reliable broadband to isolated communities located beyond the reach of copper, cable or fibre networks. Fixed wireless broadband utilizes the speed and coverage of either a 3G or 4G (LTE) network to deliver broadband connectivity to homes and business. As the name suggests, fixed wireless technologies utilize either a 3G or 4G gateway that are situated in a fixed location, such as an office or home.

NetComm Wireless and the National Broadband Network (NBN)

The government funded NBN aims to deliver Australia's first national wholesale-only open access broadband network to all Australians, regardless of where they live. With the technology in place to connect rural Australian homes and businesses to the world's first commercial 4G / LTE TDD network (to be built, and operated, by Ericsson for the NBN Co.) NetComm Wireless was selected by Ericsson to develop advanced fixed-wireless devices to address up to 500,000 remote premises expected to connect to high-speed broadband by 2015.

Our advanced 4G/LTE fixed wireless technology can be tailored to support similar deployments globally as governments, carriers and ISPs increasingly seek to connect isolated communities based in sparsely populated regions to fast and reliable broadband services.

Extending wireless

NetComm Wireless have engineered a portfolio of Outdoor Mobile Broadband Routers that has been designed to provide carriers, wholesalers, government bodies and core network providers with a CPE solution that addresses the large number of regional premises who either have no broadband access or are located on the fringe of a network with low signal strength.

Our Rural Broadband technologies

Our Outdoor Routers are designed to connect homes and businesses to the speed and coverage of 3G or 4G (FDD & TDD) networks to deliver high speed broadband to individual premises.

The device is ideal for remote locations without a fixed (ADSL/Cable/Fibre) broadband connection or locations in a low signal strength area. This highly featured all-in-one router integrates a 3G or 4G modem, router, WiFi, voice (optional) and high gain antennas into one robust weatherproof device.

The Outdoor Routers allow users to connect their premises to high speed broadband and share this connection via a fixed Ethernet connection or via a powerful (optional) WiFi network. With the integrated 802.11n Access Point and MIMO antenna technology, the router provides reliable and wide reaching WiFi coverage for both indoor and outdoor wireless access.

The weatherproof Outdoor Router is also designed to be mounted either on a wall or pole on the outside of your premises, and its IP67 rating ensures your router will withstand harsh climates including dust, rain and extreme temperatures.
