NetComm Limited announces the release of its 3G Travel Router t1. A true wireless 3G hotspot, the tiny t1 unit needs no power or Internet cables and can keep multiple wireless devices connected on the fly in the car, office, hotel room or walking down the street. Running off an internal battery, highly mobile users are free of the need to set up cables in whatever temporary situation they find themselves operating in.
The t1 allows connection via ADSL, but for true portability, inserting a 3G dongle permits sharing of the connection via Ethernet cable or through Wireless b/g/n (up to 150Mbps). Alternatively, the 3G dongle can be used for automatic failover in case the ADSL connection is lost.
The sleek and attractive unit is just 103mm (L) x 76mm (W) x 22mm (H), which is similar to many PDA devices and small enough to fit in a pocket. Battery life in usage mode is about 2.5 5 hours, but there is the option of using a power cable to allow indefinite operation.
One t1 scenario that is bound to be of assistance to frequent travelers is in helping to avoid smartphone bill shock from overseas roaming and data downloads. The t1s Ethernet port allows phone owners to access the Net from (for example) their hotel rooms Ethernet connection. They can then use the t1 as a Wi-Fi access point to get their phone online instead of depending on the foreign 3G network. Similarly, small groups of people travelling together could access the Internet via the one connection instead of all of them paying for 3G dongles or phone roaming.
The connectivity offered by 3G is also invaluable when travelers find themselves in a situation where ADSL is not available or provides poor performance. The t1s 3G capability is then ideal either as a primary connection method or as a failover option. Likewise, dongle modems can sometimes provide poor reception, which is very frustrating if someone has little choice about where they set up their computer in a meeting or other situation. But using the Wi-Fi functionality to create a private local network, the t1 can instead be placed to allow maximum reception for the dongle, whilst the computer user works unburdened by the need to connect any cables.
Whatever the scenario, from professional business travel to family holidays, the t1 has the capacity and flexibility to provide an Internet connection with the minimum of hassle and hardware.
The t1 ships with a carry bag and travel power adapter with interchangeable plugs for the UK, USA, EU, and Australia-NZ.
The t1 is available in Australia from now with an RRP of $199.00
